    The messages that I was so emphatically agreeing with were the ones that
    pointed out that even longer well-reasoned statements seemed to have
    been treated in the discussion as if they had never been made.

    For that reason, my use of the shorthand was particularly deliberate, if
    implicit.

    I'm now making its rationale explicit.

    I hope this allows us to cut out the knee-jerk reactions to punctuation
    marks and digits and get back to discussing emoji.
