316 Proposal to Remove Some Hira/Kata From Script_Extensions Closing Date: 2016.05.02
Status: Closed
Originator: UTC
Informal Discussion: Unicode Mail List (Join)
Formal Feedback: Contact Form
Resolution: Change the Script_Extensions value to Han only for the 196 characters listed in Group 1, 16 characters Group 2, and 6 characters in Group 3 of L2/16-142, plus U+3006 IDEOGRAPHIC CLOSING MARK.

Description of Issue:

The Script_Extensions property values for a number of symbol characters used in an East Asian context have Script values for Hiragana, Katakana, and Bopomofo, in addition to Han. These additional values cause problems for the correct identification of script runs. The UTC is considering removing the Hiragana, Katakana, and Bopomofo values from the Script_Extensions for these characters, as well as making a few other related corrections to Script_Extensions property values. The UTC would like feedback regarding the proposed list of changes: should any of these not be changed, and if so, why not? Suggestions for additions to the list of characters to be changed are also welcome.

The background document contains details of a proposal to remove these items from Script_Extensions.
