UTW 2026

Session Host

Ana Sanikidze

Ana Sanikidze is an independent type designer, typographer, and lettering artist based in Tbilisi, Georgia, with a background in graphic design. After graduating from the MA in Typeface Design at the University of Reading in 2021, she shifted her focus to type design and has since been actively developing Georgian typefaces and collaborating with multiple international type foundries.

She is particularly interested in multiscript typography and script-specific challenges — especially how local typographic traditions can be honoured within global systems. This interest extends into research: her work has explored Georgian manuscript sources and the typographic representation of the Georgian script across different periods, most recently through the chapter ‘Secondary Styles in Georgian Typography’ in The Bloomsbury Handbook of Global Typography (2026). Her design work balances historical sensitivity with modern clarity, with a strong focus on the development and refinement of the Georgian script in contemporary type design. She is currently joining the ANRT research programme, focusing on the development of Georgian Mkhedruli text typefaces from print to the digital age.
