Intro to Type Design: What's new in Glyphs 4
Georg Seifert, Florian Pircher
Glyphs 4 is a leading professional font-design application for macOS. Originally developed and released by type designer Georg Seifert in 2011, the software supports the creation of fonts for all scripts recognized by OpenType standards.
Released in mid-2026, the fourth major iteration enables designers to create full-fledged OpenType font families, variable fonts, color fonts, and SF Symbols. Boasting comprehensive global language support, including complex writing systems, Glyphs is more than just a software tool—it is backed by a vibrant community that unites designers, engineers, studios, and foundries from across the globe.
Tutorial attendees will have the unique opportunity to speed on the latest major release of Glyphs. They will learn how to profit from new axis-based features for setting up and managing your designspace, built-in interpolation preview, CFF2 export, how to combat interpolation kinks for the first time ever with HOI™ technology, and how to make the most of the new filters Slanter, Trace Image and Simplify.
