Your friend is too impatient. It wiil take some time, possibly decades, for
ASCII to supplant all the other yucky and now-obsolete data formats, such as
JPEG, MPEG, etc. Remember, the ASCII consortium must work with existing
technologies, and faces strong pressure to ensure ackwards compatibility as
it progresses.

Keep the faith. ASCII will triumph in the end!
