Target Audience: Manager, Software Engineer, Systems Analyst

Level of Session: Beginner

In this talk we will demonstrate and discuss the design of an OLE full server application that displays Unicode and all installed character sets on a Win32 (Windows NT or Windows 95/98) system. Incorporating the Unicode character database maintained by the Unicode Consortium the program allows viewing all of Unicode by its block structure along with details about each character. Using the multibyte-widechar mapping functions in conjunction with Unicode rendering, the program can also display all single and multibyte character sets installed on the system. Additionally, the program can show the effects of Win32 functions that perform monocasing and character typing. Since the program runs nearly the same in Windows NT as in Windows 95/98 its underlying architecture is also interesting as a model for building Unicode applications that work well in both environments. The location of a website containing full source will be provided.
