Dear Mr. Vance and List:

Actually, Japanese is one of the Arabic script exotica mentioned by Alan Kaye in his article in The_world's_ writing_systems.

But Javanese is a good suggestion---I wouldn't be surprised if it also had an Arabic-script period between its Indic period and its Roman period.
