Antenna House's XSL Formatter V3.2 is a powerful software package that can transform XML into PDF, print and screen outputs. Built around Unicode and the XSL-FO (Formatting Objects) Standard, Formatter first transforms the XML file according to the rules described in the XSL stylesheet. Formatter then interprets the XSL-FO to render the document contents to the desired output. XSL Formatter fully supports multilingual publishing requirements, including the complexities of double-byte languages (Chinese, Japanese), right-to-left languages (Hebrew, Arabic) and languages with difficult hyphenation rules (Thai). Formatter is in use around the world and is available for Windows, Unix and Linux.

Low bill rates, world-class engineering skills and native double-byte expertise are making China THE destination of choice for companies looking to outsource software development, globalization and testing work. China has an abundant supply of talented engineers, with almost as many engineering degrees granted in China in 2002 as in the United States. Additionally, over 1/3 of the Chinese nationals that received degrees overseas are returning home, bringing with them not only education, but also Western business experience. Salaries in China are, on average, below that of other major offshore outsourcing centers. And, unlike those in India or Europe, Chinese engineers natively program in double-byte, which can be of critical importance to companies localizing software for deployment in the large (and growing) CCJK market. English language skills are burgeoning in China, with national competitions being held and primary schools holding classes in English. Also, the Chinese government has made amazing improvements in the communications and transportation infrastructure.

But while it is easy for companies like IBM and Microsoft to simply set up shop there, mid-level and smaller companies need to find other ways to take advantage of what China has to offer. Launching a successful outsourcing project in China is not without its challenges.

In this Session, Joel Douglas will give an overview of China designed for the VP of Product Development who is trying to establish a relationship with Chinese partners. He will provide a checklist and high-level best practices for successfully outsource product development and Globalization to China.
