Abstract

Appreciating Multilingual Resources

Bill Hall - SimulTrans, LLC

Intended Audience: Manager, Software Engineer, Engineering Managers
Session Level: Intermediate

Localizers hate them, developers don't understand them, and API support is only half done. Nevertheless, Win32's multilingual resource file format has many interesting features and is well-supported in Visual Studio. In this talk we show how a multilingual resource can provide multilanguage operation for programs in Windows 95/98 and Windows NT, that simple API's can be written to use them directly, and, by exploiting compilation switches, can provide a useful central reference for building localized versions of a product.
